Contemporary, yet steeped in an understanding and love of the genre, Kirchner's compositions are first rate, the covers judiciously selected, and the playing throughout is absolutely first rate. Hard to pick anyone out, but the bass clarinet is just sublime.

Stellar performances and terrific compositions. This is seriously good jazz, deeply spiritual in many ways, but with a confident, energised spring in its step.

Sure to be one of the standout jazz releases of 2018. Favorite track: Wondrous Eyes.

STEVEN PAGE This album and my ears became good friends after the first listen. Sometimes I have to listen a few times to let the music grow on me, but this was love at first listen. I even caught my head bobbing there a couple of times. Good Stuff.

binomess I've given myself a few weeks to digest this album and it is phenomenal. First, Kirchner gets a ridiculously talented group of Chicago-are musicians to support him, and all are in top form (especially Lepine, doubling up on flute and tenor). At about 80 minutes in length, there is a lot to digestt here, but Kirchner balances a bunch of excellent covers with originals balancing a variety of forms (and in the case of Armageddon. free-form) Expect this one to be on quite a few best-of lists! Favorite track: The Ritual.

Flat, centered, dead quiet surfaces, and shockingly good sound.
A triumph of craftsmanship.
Well worth the wait.
And the music, of course, is an incredible contemporary Chicago celebration.
